The Waterside Ladies Supper Club
Where did WLSC come from?
Waterside Ladies Supper Club started when a group of women with busy lives juggling work, family responsibilities, life, etc., realised they were lonely. After many nights chatting on Facebook, it was tentatively suggested we take the e-friendship we had created, to another level, to real friendship. So we agreed to meet up for a drink, a meal, or “something”.
Founded by Susan Hayward, her response was, “Oh my word. What have I started?” In 36 hours, there were 32 names on a list. In June 2013, the Waterside Ladies Supper Club had its first get-together. The Facebook Group followed very quickly afterwards. The rest, as they say, is history.
Our Waterside is the geographical area covered by the SO40 and SO45 postcodes. Most of our members live in this area.
What are the core values of WLSC?
We focus on three core elements – friendship, food and fun, but not necessarily in that order!
How does WLSC run?
Waterside Ladies Supper Club is powered by women for women. It currently runs exclusively as a private group on Facebook. This page is our first venture into the “outside” world.
There is a strong team of fabulous women who plan, organise and generally make things happen. That said, we are a loosely structured group. There may be a group of admins, but as such, there are few admin meetings, no constitution, and no bank account.
Any one of the members may organise an event. Please, ask the admins for guidance. To be as inclusive as possible, we try not to double book events (seldom are two occurring on the same day at the same time).
Attendance at all Waterside Ladies Supper Club events, activities and groups is solely at your own risk.

Are there any rules?
The rules of Waterside Ladies Supper Club are simple and can be summed up as ”Be nice.”
- Waterside Ladies Supper Club was created for friendship, food and fun. As members, we all agree to –
- Be kind and courteous in private and in public to fellow members
- We will not accept hate speech or bullying in any context
- Business posts are permitted once per month ONLY
- We value inclusion, diversity and equality
- We respect each other’s privacy
You will be leaving the group permanently if you break these rules.
When joining the Group on Facebook, you will be asked three questions. You need to answer all three questions to be admitted to the group:
- Do you live in the Waterside area (postcodes SO40 or SO45)?
- Will you be kind and courteous in private and in public to fellow members and respect their privacy?
- Will you join in as much as you are able?
Are there any regular diary dates?
To stay in touch with what we are doing and any variations on events you need to join our Facebook Group here: WLSC Our most regular meeting is detailed below.
But what if I know no-one?
At a Waterside Ladies Supper Club event you will not be left on the side like a wall flower. We all talk to each other. Some of our events are bigger get-togethers; others are limited to just 6, for example, the WaLaSC Table events. We have a record of enabling women to make friends – the proof is in what the members say, included below.
Variety
Apart from bigger social events, there is something for everyone.
• Book clubs
• Craft groups
• Weekly coffee get-togethers
• Boules in the summer/board games in the winter
Is there an activity you’d like to start or get involved in? First, check in with the lovely administrators, then ask the main group who else may be interested, talk to each other, and make it happen. There is no real limit as to what you can do.

What People Say
This is a sincere thank you to all members who have helped keep me sane through the last few weeks by phoning, offering to get shopping, sent cards & generally kept my head above water!! I ran out of LPG & within half an hour, I had an electric heater & a heated blanket to wrap around myself! No need for being cold when there are so many lovely ladies in the Waterside ladies supper club who offer, so willingly, to help.I've been taken shopping, to hospital appointments & I've also had help from some very kind neighbours!!! Thank you one & all. Joining the WLSC was the best thing socially I've ever done xx

Joined when it was first founded. We had only just moved from the Cotswolds, and I didn’t know a soul. I have made so many lovely friends thanks to Supper Club.
JH
Totally agree, lots of beautiful ladies, having my best social life
MM
I've been in this group right from the start and have met some lovely friends through it!
HT
Joined years ago & have found so many friendly women. I joined at the same time as CD (another lady in the area) at the St. Andrews coffee shop. I was nervous, but we were soon chatting away & other ladies joined us. Still go there on a Friday for a meet-up.

The WLSC has been an absolute lifeline for me since I joined back in 2014. I have made lots of wonderful friends and joined many associated interest groups like Knit Wits, book club and the wine club. Not having family close by, the friends I’ve made have become my support group, especially through the Friday morning coffee meetings, which I now organise at The Boat House, Hythe Marina. The Facebook group is also great for asking questions and getting advice, too.
JA
This is the most friendly & all-inclusive club, you'll never be alone, the friendship I've rec'd since joining 6 years ago is second to none. Come & join us.
